Spirulina powder is pure dried and finely ground Spirulina platensis which mixes uniformly into meals or can be easily suspended and given by dose syringe.

Spirulina platensis is a member of the family cyanobacteria but unlike other blue-green algae, it does not have the potential to produce toxins. The World Health Organization has described Spirulina as a super food. It is safe enough to be included as part of the daily diet for undernourished third world children and potent enough to be favored as an assistance in the fight against significant oxidant challenges like radiation.

Spirulina platensis averages 61% protein with a quality equivalent to the best biological sources like egg or whey and superior to soybean. Its 8% fat includes generous levels of the important n-3 fatty acids gamma- and alpha-linolenic acid as well as DHA and EPA. On the vitamin front, there are excellent levels of vitamin A and the B group.

Spirulina has been documented to support the immune system in producing circulating IgG and IgM antibodies, mucus membrane associated IgA antibodies in the lungs, gut and genitourinary systems, and to shift away from the IgE antibodies associated with allergic reactions. It also directly supports stabilization of mast cells which release histamine.
