A vibrant coat goes hand in hand with healthy skin.  Canine Skin and Coat is a rich source of Omega-3, 6 and 9 fatty acids, hydrolyzed protein, and Biotin with probiotics targeted to promote healthy skin and a shiny coat from the inside-out.

Canine hair originates in follicles nestled deep within the skin, and after it has grown depends on the skin structures to provide a protective coating of fats, which gives the hair its brilliance and guards against damaging environmental factors.  Canine Skin and Coat Soft Chews are a tasty, easy way to provide key fats and nutrients to support supple skin and a glossy coat.

The soft, thick, lustrous coat everyone wants for their dog is highly dependent on healthy, supple skin being beneath it. The general condition of the dog's skin and coat are good indicators of his health. A healthy coat should be shiny and smooth, not brittle or coarse, and healthy skin should be supple and clear, not greasy, flaky, itchy or bumpy.

Hydrolyzed gelatin is a rich source of amino acids key to the production of collagen. Collagen is the framework of skin which gives it structure and elasticity. It can even help the skin preserve its moisture level. Only animal products are natural sources of collagen, so dogs on commercial diets may benefit from supplementation with the highly digestible hydrolyzed gelatin.

You may not think of fat as important to skin and coat health, but it plays a major role. The pliability of skin cell membranes depends on the presence of omega-3, -6 and -9 fatty acids. Fats provide the barrier to moisture loss in both skin and coat, and form a seal against harmful organisms.

The type of fat also matters. Skin must strike a balance in healthy inflammatory reactions. To do this it needs both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. However, plant fats used in dog foods and fat from heavily grain fed animals is very high in omega-6 with little omega-3. Canine Skin and Coat contains generous levels of omega-3 fatty acids, including preformed DHA and EPA from healthful fish oil.

B vitamins support cells that produce skin and hair have a very high metabolic rate and divide frequently. The B vitamin Biotin has been found to be particularly important for skin and coat. Biotin helps maintain the protective fat barrier, assists in collagen and keratin (hair and skin structural protein) production and helps maintain a stronger, thicker coat.

Canine Skin and Coat also contains the probiotic Pediococcus acidilactici, a unique strain which produces high levels of bacteriocins. Bacteriocins are substances produced by bacteria that help maintain a normal population of beneficial organisms and an environment that is unfavorable for the growth of harmful bacteria.
